MISSION:
To empower students and community groups to make healthy and mindful choices through food literacy and plant-based nutrition education services to schools and community groups. It’s no secret that the biggest impact on our planet is agriculture. It’s time to combine our expertise and focus our efforts on encouraging sustainable choices and eliminating unethical business practices around the world affecting humans, animals, and the environment.
WHAT:
Our circle will connect community members, professionals, students, and health-conscious individuals who believe in the power of plant-based nutrition and food education. The goal is to improve public health, animal welfare, and raise awareness of global food issues by educating the public about the food system. Especially the younger generation - the are the future of the food system.
WHY:
The US alone is facing an epidemic of obesity among adults and children alike. Chronic diet-related diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, and cancer are more prevalent than ever.
On the other end, industrial farms are inhumanely exploiting and abusing innocent animals. They are artificially inseminated, injected with growth hormones, and fed antibiotics. Not to mention, the detrimental impact factory farms have on the environment. (we can mention something about the health of labor workers in this industry)
Unfortunately, most schools do not incorporate food education into their curriculums. Thus, leaving a major chunk of our population food illiterate. That’s when we, the Food Professionals, Health Advocates, Animal and Social Activists of the world can make a serious impact!
WHO:
Each one of us has a unique skill to offer. Whether you’re a nutrition student, a registered dietician, a fitness coach, food scientist, doctor, product developer, engineer, mathematician or a professional NASCAR driver….(you get the picture)….If you believe in the cause, then together we can make a massive impact.
VISION:
Create Volunteer Groups to present at local community centers, schools (K-12), colleges/universities on topics relating to the food system.
Hold monthly social gatherings (breweries, wineries, vegan restaurants) with keynote speakers/presentations (led by our very own members!) educating on plant-based nutrition, the supply chain, meat production, food science and technology, animal welfare.
Collaborate to create a semi-large community festival or a summit to bring light to food issues: public health, animal welfare, environmental impact, sustainability and food waste..
Ideas are always welcome! I’m sure we’ll brew up quite a few during our “mastermind” meet-ups!
