On October 24, 1975, Ninety percent of Iceland’s female population participated in a strike-to protest gender inequality. They did not go to their paid jobs, do any housework or child-rearing for the whole day.
Five years later in 1980, Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, an Icelander was elected as the first democratically elected female president in the world. Iceland today, is the front-runner in gender equality, equal wages and respect for women.
