Empowering managers
to fight bias

Fossil Group knows that facilitating open and honest conversations about bias, as well as putting practical tools to combat bias into their employees’ hands, is key to curating an inclusive environment. When looking for an interactive, scalable program to help foster these conversations, Fossil Group turned to their trusted partner, Lean In, and piloted 50 Ways to Fight Bias.

Both men and women managers felt more equipped to discuss bias with their teams after going through the 50 Ways program.

By launching the 50 Ways program, Fossil Group gave managers more confidence to lead powerful and engaging conversations with their teams about gender bias.

Not all teams are the same. In order to address bias, it is important to implement unconscious bias training that meets employees where they are. 50 Ways gave managers the tools to talk about gender bias in a way that best worked for their teams, and as a result, their team members feel more equipped to challenge gender bias.

Fossil Group trained 80 managers through a train-the-trainer workshop. They then took it back to their teams in these ways:

Small and large group discussions

Managers from the Design and Product Development teams combined forces to facilitate one large workshop across their teams.

Lean In Circles

Lean In Circle leaders at Fossil Group incorporated 50 Ways into their Circle meetings.

Theme-based discussions

One group used the cards focused on maternal bias to discuss the theme of “Work + Family.”
