Our mission

We read books and talk about them, and have fun together in order to build new skills in Computer Security-related topics, whether or not it relates to our current job duties. This provides accountability to each other and adds to our constant, life-long learning and career development. If you already read books, it lets you seamlessly add another to your routine. As part of lean-in, we hope also to encourage folks of all genders to join in, and get a chance to become leaders at Walmart.

About our Circle

  • Meets once a month
  • Looking for members

We meet the 2nd Thursday of each month, in-person, in a supportive & confidential environment. This is a circle for everyone--not only IT Security professionals--of all genders. It's a great way to add discipline or mentorship to your study routine and get CPE. We'll keep each other accountable, answer questions, and provide mentorship opportunities. Optionally join one of the public, weekly book club calls via Zoom audio. InfoSec Book Club is the Walmart-only version of the #bookclub channel of the Brakeing Down Security Podcast (organized via Brakesec's Slack site by @cherokeejb_ & @dpcybuck at https://brakesec.slack.com/). We choose books and activities together, read a chapter or two each week, and discuss them; bringing in the authors when possible. Past books include a wide-range of topics, everything from "Cyber Operations" by Mike O'Leary to "Defensive Security Handbook" from BrakeSec's own Amanda Berlin. See #infosec_bookclub on Walmart Slack for additional discussion.

How it works

Circles are small groups of women who come together—online or offline—for real talk and peer support.

Why join a Circle?

We all need a safe space for real talk, inspiration, and support. Right now, we need community more than ever.
