After attending a GM Women's Leadership Conference, this group was formed to continue the learnings and discussions with the attendees. Leadership 1. Engineers attended the Niagara Leadership Summit for Women, where one presented on a workshop panel called “Women in Non-Traditional Roles. So What?” 2. Leadership of the FIRST Lego League tournament. Sylvia acted as co-chair, and I brought 10 years of experience with the FIRST program to help run the event. 3. Reporting out on the initiatives as the GM Canada Women’s Council Chair and sharing materials from the conferences she has been attending in that role. Community 1. At Christmas, we donated over $600 to a local women’s abuse shelter through Women’s Place of South Niagara 2. Organized a Women’s Car Care Clinic for the group to expand our automotive/technical knowledge, and obtained sponsorship from Sunshine Automotive Consultants and John Bear dealership. The $300 raised were donated to the YWCA. 3. Louise brought to the group the Goodman School of Business Management Certificatee all attended evening classes in Creativity in Problem Solving, and Personal Branding. Louise and I have both now completed a Management Certificate from the Goodman School of Business. For the future 1. Currently in dialogues with the Executive Director of the YWCA on creating a Women’s Mentoring Network in Niagara, focusing on Women in Non-Traditional Roles. We’ve had 3 meetings, and are setting our way for developing new ideas 2. Working through the Goodman School of Business, looking at options for Guest speakers to address our group through seminars on topics such as Personal Branding and Leadership 3. Cheryl is a passionate golfer and the summer months can drive some networking opportunities 4. Continue to draw on the strengths of the group for interesting initiatives.
