Women make up 50% of the world’s population but are underrepresented in global affairs. According to the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report 2016, the global gender gap is widening and gender equality will only be achieved in 170 years, or 2186. The proportion of women in work in the Grand Duchy for women in the 25 to 49 years age bracket increased from 42.9% in 1983 to 76.5% in 2012. However, the gap between the figures for women and men (91.6% of men in the 25 to 49 years age bracket are in work) is one of the largest in Europe. Despite holding equal qualifications and their growing presence in the labour market, women in the Grand Duchy are still significantly under-represented among decision-makers in both the public and private sectors. To address this decline, we invite Advisors, Partners and Friends of Shapers living in the Luxembourg City region to join the Global Shapers Luxembourg Lean In group to collectively address the challenges of gender disparity.
